NANOMATERIALS - THERMODYNAMICS AND KINETICSFFFN05

Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in English. FFFN05 overlap following cours/es: FAFN15, FMF150 och KOO045. Recommended prerequisits: Compulsory physics and chemistry courses within Engineering Nanoscience. The course might be cancelled if the numer of applicants is less than 8. Aim
This course will offer an overview of thermodynamic phenomena from a materials science perspective, with application towards nanomaterials. Some relevant kinetic processes with also be presented.

Contents
Review of basic thermodynamics; thermodynamic equilibrium; phase equilibria, phase stability and phase transformations; phase diagrams (single component - multicomponent); reactions & reaction kinetics; mass transport - diffusion in solids, diffusion in fluids; heat transport; size effects.
