TELECOMMUNICATION IN RAILWAY TRAFFICETS605

Higher education credits: 3. Grading scale: UG. Level: G1 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Compulsory for: IBYI2. Aim
The aim is to provide fundamental knowledge of telecommunications on a system level, and an insight into how the telecommunication installations are used by the different actors in the railway system.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Be able to give an account of the most important telecommunication installations’ construction, design and function

Understand how critical the telecommunication installations are for railway traffic

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Give an account of the construction and function of:

o The National Rail Administration’s transmission network

o The National Rail Administration’s radio system MobiSIR

o The National Rail Administration’s telephone network

Be able to give an account of how the telecommunication system is used by different actors in the railway system

· Be able to describe how disturbances in the telecommunication installations can affect the whole railway system

Contents
The course contains a section on the different telecommunication installations’ construction, design and function.

An important part of the course is to show how these installations interact with other technical systems used in railways.
