Aim
The aim is to introduce different experimental methods for working with experimental architectural design and to stimulate the creation of exciting and dynamic architecture that harmonizes with urban space and with the pulse of city life .

The project provides a more advanced treatment than earlier of the relationship between form, material and function, and of how this can be utilized in architectural design. The project is also directed at expanding traditional conceptions of what architecture is and how it evolves.

The course is of practical, theoretical and experimental character, aiming at supporting the student’s process of artistic liberation. The work conducted aims at rehabilitating the artistic side of architecture as a positive force in social life and at underlining the potential it has in terms of communicating with the world around and influencing it.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• under supervision be able to carry out a project she/he has selected concerned with spatial design.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to describe satisfactorily in verbal terms, and reason in a sound way and with use of abstract metaphors, regarding architectural spaces he/she has created.

• show the ability to make suggestions worthy of interest concerning architectural questions of clearly specified character.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• demonstrate the ability to use appropriate instruments in a proper way for thorough analysis of a given architectural space.

Contents
The course aims at helping the student conceive of architecture as a highly engaging and active undertaking directed at societal development. The relationship between form, konstruction and function is examined and the question of how this relationship can be utilized in architectural design and in urban construction generally is explored. The program conceived and the place involved in a specific architectural experiment or undertaking are also shown to contribute to the work carried out through the history connected with both. The experimental methods used in the project in which the student is engaged should provide the student new insights into how the concept of architecture can be interpreted and at the same time support conventional ideas and styles of living. The project should be viewed as providing a possibility of contributing to a continuing process of clarifying the role of architecture in an existence characterized by continual change in the conditions at hand.

Approach

The educational approach taken is that each stage of the design process being considered is led by a guest teacher of high quality internationally. These guest teachers stimulate the group’s engaging in intense and concentrated work spurred on by a wide variety of questions and ideas of strong interest to those participating. The workshops and seminars provide points of entrance for the work to be conducted. Each workshop begins with an introductory lecture and ends with a summary of what was done.
