MECHANICSVSM101
Mekanik

Credits: 4. Grading scale: TH. Compulsory for: ID1. Course coordinator: Professor Göran Sandberg. Goran.Sandberg@byggmek.lth.se, Byggnadsmekanik. Assessment: For a final grade approved hand-in assignments are required. Homepage: http://www.byggmek.lth.se//education/vsm101/course_material/course_material.htm.

Aim
The course focuses on the interaction between material, shape and loading. The objective is to understand how different choices of these parameters influence internal forces and deformations, and to be able to use this knowledge as a tool when designing products.

Contents
Fundamental concepts, quantities and relations which are used for characterizing material, forces and deformations are explained. From real-life situations problems are defined and suitable models are chosen for a conceptual analysis of the problem. Examples of discussed concepts and quantities are mass, centre of gravity, stiffness, force, moment and equilibrium.
