RAILWAY PLANNING AND DESIGN METHODOLOGYVVBF01

Recommended prerequisits: Track and Permanent Way for Engineers (VVB662), Signalling, Traffic Control and Capacity (VTT621), Telecommunication in Railway Traffic (ETS605), Electric Power Systems for Electrified Railway (EIE631). Assessment: Satisfactory project work. Satisfactory written exam. Parts: 3. Further information: The course is held at Järnvägsskolan in Ängelholm.

Aim
The aim of the course is to enable the students to understand and apply the planning and projection process to railbound traffic.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Give an account of the planning and projections in respect of railway infrastructure.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Be able to project a railway structure to the level of ”overall system document” by applying previous CAD-knowledge

Be able to evaluate different alternatives from the point of view of national economic benefit.

Account for the results of project work in a final report to the level of ”overall system document”..

The report should contain national economic, technical and environmental analyses and standpoints.
