Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: UG. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in English on demand. Optional for: V4at. Prerequisites: Alt 1: VBK020 Concrete Structures, Advanced Course, VBK035 Design of Steel Structure, VBM031 Concrete in a Life-cycle Perspectice and one of the courses VSM040 The Finite Element Method or VGT021 Foundation Engineering. Alt 2: VBK020 Concrete Structures, VVB071 Pavement Design and Construction. Recommended prerequisits: VSM150 Engineering Modelling: Analysis of Structures and for Alt 2VBK035 Design of Steel Structures. Contents
The course includes lectures, design projects, visiting lectures by professional bridge designers and a study visit.

The course is based on two major projects. The first project is a conventional two span road bridge in pre-stressed concrete. The design is made on a relatively detailed level. The second project is a long span bridge where the structural system, construction methods, economy and aesthetics are chosen in the form of preliminary design level.
