THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND BUSINESS ECONOMICS

VBE013

Higher education credits: 10,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: G1 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. VBE013 overlap following cours/es: VBEA01. Compulsory for: V2. Optional for: L4. Course coordinator: Stefan Olander, stefan.olander@bekon.lth.se, Byggnadsekonomi. Assessment: To receive high marks demands excellent presentation of assignments. In addition to receive point 4 or 5 a written examination is necessary. Further information: Compulsory requirement: Written report on companys calculation and estimation (according to the guidelines in Level 1 V-programmes for handing in assignments). Aim
The subject aims at imparting the students with the knowledge and understanding of the players, regulations and processes that must be observe with planning and administration of a building or construction process. In addition the subject will also focus on the basic knowledge of business economys calculation method and analysis.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Describe the different stages in a construction process
Identify and define the roles of all players at different stages of the construction process.
Understand the construction processes relation to companies and societys economy.
Describe the rules and regulations that affect the different stages of construction
Explain the quality process and safety working environment in the construction process.
Identify the essential working environments aspects with respect to building or construction process.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Apply basic method for costing and income analysis; investment assessment and product estimation.
Perform closing accounts for smaller companies through result liquidity and balance sheet.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

Formulate and evaluate the relevant aspects of construction process.
Demonstrate and analyse companys financial assessment.

Contents
In general the subject focuses on the construction process as a whole. Specifically the construction process concentrates on the aspects of project management, production stage, administration and working environment. Meanwhile the business economy aspects handle on costing, income analysis, investment assessment and production estimation. In addition the basic knowledge also focuses on the managing of group process.
