Syllabus academic year 2007/2008
THEORY OF TURBO MACHINERYMVK026

Higher education credits: 6. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Optional for: F4, F4fs, M4, M4en, M4fs. Course coordinator: Prof Mohsen Assadi, Mohsen.Assadi@vok.lth.se, Energivetenskaper. Prerequisites: MMV050 Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. Assessment: The examination is carried out individually and in group. The compulsory project assignments have to be presented written as well as orally in seminars, where all group members are required to participate actively. To pass the course, the student must pass all of the compulsory tasks. To receive the higher grade (4) the student must pass the written exam. Passing the written exam is necessary for participation in the oral exam to get the highest grade (5). Neither the written nor the oral exam is compulsory. Home page: http://www.vok.lth.se.

Aim
The course will provide basic knowledge and understanding of the principle of the turbomachinery, their construction, way of functioning and control and the processes that take place in these machines. Further more the course will provide basic skills in problem solving regarding energy balance at component and system level, interaction between the working fluid and the structure by simple analysis of the velocity triangles and calculation of the efficiencies and losses.
