The course begins with a general introduction to the use and application of 3D programs in the industrial design profession. Use and navigation in the Alias Auto Studio module user interface is then explained and practised (menus, icons, keyboard shortcuts, functions, etc.) before the introduction of the NURBS modelling concept with curves. Students are given the opportunity to practise working with different types of curves and surfaces based on the remodelling of simple products in 3D.

Questions are devoted to surface precision and model quality as well as model strategy (“How do you start?”).

Basic renderings procedures are learned based on the final model including areas such as choice of resolution, scene design, camera settings, light settings, colours, materials and the addition of graphics and textures.

Literature
Relevant web sites, net based user forums and manuals that are determined in consultation with the instructor.
