Higher education credits: 4,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. Optional for: I4. Course coordinator: Prof Robert Bjärnemo, robert.bjarnemo@mkon.lth.se, Maskinkonstruktion. Assessment: The course includes one compulsory project which is carried out in groups of 3-5 students. Approved project earns a score between 10 - 20 points. Aim
The course objective is to give the student basic knowledge of strategies, terminology and methods utilized in product development. The course should also provide basic understanding of the engineering design process, in the form of procedures, methods and techniques utilized in systematic design work.

Contents
Based on an overall modell of the industrial product development process, the main part of the lectures focus on the actual product development process from a methodogical point of view. The engineering design process, which is the singel most important part of the development process is covered in some detail. After having provided the theoretical insights the students, in groups of 3 - 5 stunents per group, undertaks a development within the conceptual development phase. Each and every team gives an oral presentation of their results at a seminar in the end of the course. Each and every group is also required to presnt theri project in thre form of a written report. The scores obtained for the group is also the score given to each and every member of the group.
