PROJECT IN MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY

Higher education credits: 15. Grading scale: UG. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in English on demand. KOK100 overlap following cours/es: KOK020 och KOK020. Optional for: B4l, K4l. Course coordinator: Dr Martin Johansson, martin.johansson@organic.lu.se, Bioorganisk kemi. Prerequisites: KOK090 Drug synthesis. Recommended prerequisits: KOK095 Computational chemistry and structure analysis. Assessment: To pass the examination a written report and an oral presentation is required.

Aim
The aim of the course is to give thorough practical skills in synthetic organic chemistry.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be able to interpret results to explain the outcome of organic reactions

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to plan and execute multi-step syntheses under supervision
be able to describe how to apply theoretical reasoning in the laboratory
be able to document experimental results
be able to present results in speech and writing

Contents
The course comprises a synthesis task within a research area related to organic chemistry studying biologically active molecules. The experimental work shall be documented in a lab journal and then be presented orally and in a report.
