The number of participants is limited to 56 Selection criteria: Credits awarded or credited within the study programme. Assessment: For a passing grade the student must attend 75% or more of the lectures or pass a written final examination. The aim of the course is to give basic understanding of how knowledge in organic chemistry are used in industry and society at large.

Contents
The course discusses four different aspects of applied organic chemistry.

Organic bulk chemicals: starting materials, plastics and polymers, scale-up of organic reactions, green chemistry, safety, economical factors, and regulating laws.

Organic fine chemicals: organic dyes, taste and smell of organic compounds, and history.

Drugs: Drug development processes, combinatorial chemistry, synthesis of biologically active compounds, laws, moral, and ethics.

Computers in organic chemistry: Information technology for chemists, data base searching, drawing techniques, basic computational chemistry
