Higher education credits: 4,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in English on demand. Optional for: N4, N4nel, N4nf. Aim
The aim of this course is to give a presentaion of the basic theory of quantum mechanics with applications.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

- know the basic formalism and mathematical methods of Q M

- be able to use the theory on applied problems

- be able to see the usefulness of Q M in some applications

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

- know how to use the methods of Q M to analyze and to compute relevant quantities

- be able to decide whether a classical or a quantal treatment is applicable

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

- be able to apply a quantum mechanical view in connection with applied problems

Contents
Basic formalism. Hermitian operators and eigenvalues. First order pertubation theory, variational methods and matrix diagonalization. Spherical symmetry and angular momentum. Spin and magnetic interaction. Periodical potentials and Bloch wave functions.
