Aim
Consumer electronic products play an important role in today’s society. This course will give an overview of modern consumer electronic products and how they work. The aim of the course is to give the students basic understanding of electronic products and sufficient knowledge of electronic vocabulary in order to understand literature such as brochures and technical manuals.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

· Be familiar with the basic mechanisms behind common consumer electronic products, and how they work.

· Acquire sufficient knowledge to be able to participate in the technology debate within the consumer electronics area.

Be able to understand technical literature and make estimations of functionality, performance and quality of consumer electronic products.

Contents
The focus of the course is to give a basic understanding of information carrying systems. Tree specific areas are studied: acoustic-, image- and storage. A number of systems are studied including; sound reproduction, radio and broadcasting, mobile phones, GPS, CD and DVD-players, computers, medical electronics etc.
