Assessment: Three passed hand-in assignments, five completed laboratory exercises and a final written test during 5h. Home page:

The course is intended to give a basic and wide knowledge in analysis and design of radio frequency circuits, primarily based on lumped components, but also engineering skills in measurement techniques that are necessary for verification of the result. The radio is an essential part in wireless applications such as cellular phones, multimedia terminals, computer networks, short distance communication between peripherals etc. As this technology rapidly advances there is a great demand for this kind of knowledge.

The main focus is analysis and synthesis of high-frequency electronics. The radio building blocks introduced in Radio (ETI031) are discussed in terms of their electronic characteristics. Systematic methods for the design of amplifiers with regard to optimum gain, stability and noise. Circuits are presented and exemplified with transmission lines and transistors in the frequency range megahertz to gigahertz. Oscillators, filters, mixers and detectors are also treated as genuine high-frequency circuits. Advanced radio frequency measurements using spectrum and network analysers.

Type of teaching
The theory presented in lectures is elaborated and practised in seminars. The course comprises five mandatory laboratory exercises where advanced measurement techniques are used to compare the theoretical models with the real behaviour. The course also includes three mandatory hand-in exercises.
