Aim
The aim of the course is to support the students learning about urban design in theory and practice, and practice the ability to design a new urban structure in an urban context

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to characterize the basic elements of urban structure (streets, places plots, blocks and green structures).

• be able to analyse and describe existing urban structure

• be able to relate the physical environment to ways of living

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

• apply knowledge of the basic elements

• develop a strategy for functioning urban structure

• design a proposal for a new district in a transformation area

• orally and visually be able to communicate ones project

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to value urban structure from physical and social aspects

• show ability to with a comprehensive view take into account, relevant scientific, social, esthetical and ethical aspects into judgement

• show consideration to the interplay between people and the physical environment

• show the abilities to base the work on long-term and functional solutions, with high quality and good design.

Contents
In an area of transformation, you make a proposal of a new urban structure. It should show detailed solutions of streets, places, buildings and blocks in context to surrounding areas. It should show an understandable pattern of movement, show well designed public places and the boundaries between private and public. It should be a mixed use area with good conditions for attractive dwellings with a pleasant architectural character.
