The course might be cancelled if the numer of applicants is less than 10. Assessment: Approved exercises, approved final hand-in and at least 80% attendance at seminars, lectures and group critiques.

Aim
The aim of the course is to deepen the student’s knowledge and understanding for planning strategies for sustainable urban and rural development. The aim is also to develop advanced proficiency in designing long-term sustainable urban and rural environments from a social and humanistic perspective.

Contents
In an introductory phase the comprehensive environmental goals for building development are introduced. In your chosen area the existing situation and development tendencies are studied. From this analysis, a comprehensive strategy for future building development is formulated, and in the following phase an area is studied into detail. In different phases sustainable development, the landscape and the green structure is studied. You formulate a comprehensive program for the whole studied area (the region) and the course concludes in a suggestion to a comprehensive plan for this area.
