Aim
The purpose of the course is to give an understanding and knowledge of computer networks, their principles and in particular the aspects of communication and application protocols.

Contents
Wide area networks, local area networks, principles of packet and circuit switching. Different transmission media, network switching and routing, network architecture. MAC protocols: CSMA/CD, CSMA/CA, Polling, Token-passing, etc. Internetworking, repeaters, bridges and routers. The OSI reference model. The IEEE802 protocol family. Broadband networks especially ATM technologies. Internet technologies and the Internet communication protocols. Performance of computer networks, based on queuing theory and simulation. The theory is based on Markow processes. The analysis includes Internet, web servers and other important systems.
