ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, BASIC COURSEKOK011
Organisk kemi, AK

Credits: 8. Grading scale: TH. Compulsory for: K2. Course coordinator: Ulf Ellervik. Ulf.Ellervik@orgk2.lth.se, Bioorganisk kemi. Assessment: A written exam covering the complete course is given. Homepage: http://www.orgk2.lth.se/Teaching/OrganAK/OrganAK.html.

Aim
The goal of the course is to give a basic understanding about the structure, nomenclature and geometry of organic compounds, the properties and reactions of various functional groups, as well as important reaction mechanisms.

Contents
After a brief introduction to basic physical-organic chemistry, important organic reactions and mechanisms will be discussed.
These aspects will be discussed and trained in a number of compulsory practical sessions.
Laboratory experiments will exemplify some common reaction types and synthetic methods used in an organic chemistry laboratory. Environmental and safety aspects will be considered.
