Due to the focus on decreasing carbon dioxide emissions from the construction sector, there is an increased interest of using bio-based building materials. This course will give the student in depth knowledge on material properties of bio-based building materials as well as strengths and weaknesses of these materials for different applications.

Be able to discuss strengths and weaknesses, advantages and disadvantges of bio-based materials for different applications.
The course includes bio-based construction materials, for example wood and wood based materials and materials based on plant fibers.
Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Approved laboratory work, project assignment and oral exam.
The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
