Aim

The aim of the course is to execute an industrial design project, if possible in a small team, based on a design brief relevant to the chosen focus area. During the project, the students put into practice past and newly acquired practical and theoretical knowledge. Students will have the possibility to collaborate with other faculties at Lund University and/or external partners.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• Demonstrate understanding of the terminology in the selected focus area - in relation to the industrial design discipline.

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• Demonstrate the ability to write a briefing, set up a project plan and monitor progress; effectively conducting a complete design process from concept generation to final presentation, adjusting the project’s path if necessary.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• develop the analytical, critical and communicative skills as well as aesthetic skills and individual means of express
• demonstrate the ability to conduct research at a fundamental level within the framework of a chosen subject, effectively summarising and discussing the results.
• reflect the cultural mission and ethical responsibility of the designer

Contents

Based on previous experience and knowledge and input from the Introduction and phasing-in period, students begin to further deepen themselves theoretically and practically within the field

Students are required to develop a design strategy to realise a concept  within the framework set by their chosen focus area; delineated with a complementary documentation.

 

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: 80% participation, project completion according to the guidelines set by the teacher. The outcome must be presented orally, visually and in writing – also debating the process employed.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
