Aim

• French for engineers has as its objective to give an overview of French society, culture and literature, in addition to a widened knowledge of the French language.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to use the main features of the French grammar
• be able to account for the literary work discussed in the course
• be able to report some central phenomena in French culture and French society

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to write coherent texts in correct French with the help of dictionaries etc
• be able to explain the main points and some details in simple technical texts and literary texts
• be able to explain the main points of spoken standard French within beforehand given areas
• be able to speak French in prepared situations in such a way that it does not present any problems to understand the student.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

 

• From different perspectives be able to discuss the French society and compare with Swedish conditions.

 

 

 

Contents

Module 1

This module includes a widened knowledge of spoken French. French society and culture, 3,5 credits

Module 2

Widened knowledge of written French and reading comprehension, 4 credits.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: Two compulsory oral presentations (module 1), a written examination in written language skills and literature and two written assignments (module 2).

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Admission requirements:

• Passed French Stage 3, passed Swedish B/Swedish 2B/ or passed FRA B02

The number of participants is limited to: 20
Selection: Completed university credits within the programme. Priority is given to students enrolled on programmes that include the course in their curriculum.
