Aim

The course aims to give the student an understanding of and a basic knowledge of the form, traditions and development of Scandinavian architecture.

Contents

The course is based on historical and contemporary research in the subject of Scandinavian architecture and urbanism. It aims to provide an introduction to research methodology and orientation towards the broader theme of Scandinavian architecture and urbanism. The course will include both group work and individual exercises where the opportunity to deepen the knowledge in specific areas is given depending on the course theme which may vary from year to year.

The course promotes knowledge of Scandinavian arcitecture and urban planning from different historical eras in different scales that are presented through both well-known key objects and lesser-known buildings and their architects. We discuss and explore the normative understanding of Scandinavian architecture. Is there a stated norm and can one speak in terms of representative Scandinavian architecture?

 

Examination details

Grading scale: UG - (U,G) - (Fail, Pass)
Assessment: To obtain a passing mark each student must have approved submissions and at least 80 % active presence at seminars, lectures and examinations.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.

Admission requirements:

The number of participants is limited to: 30
Selection: Completed university credits within the programme. Priority is given to students enrolled on programmes that include the course in their curriculum.
The course might be cancelled: If the number of applicants is less than 12.
