Aim

The purpose of the course is to provide insight into and understanding of the possibilities and limitations of today's and tomorrow's technological development through historical examples from technology, social and natural sciences. The course also links technical development to human conditions and the development of society in the broadest sense, thereby integrating many sciences.

Contents

Historical examples from various scientific areas, natural and social science and technology, are interwoven to yield a general overview and illustrate the development in the history of science and ideas. For this reason the course relies upon the participation of guest lecturers representing different disciplines.

Examination details

Grading scale: TH - (U,3,4,5) - (Fail, Three, Four, Five)
Assessment: For mark 3 (pass), attendance of at least 75% of lectures and seminars, and written reflections based on each of these, are required. For marks 4 and 5, an additional individual study has to be presented in writing and orally.

The examiner, in consultation with Disability Support Services, may deviate from the regular form of examination in order to provide a permanently disabled student with a form of examination equivalent to that of a student without a disability.
