Aim

The course aims to provide students with increased knowledge and understanding of specific business terminology. It aims to give a deeper understanding of business planning, entrepreneurship and project management, and clarify the relationships between the business plan and the innovation process. The students will be given an insight into how a product development process can be integrated within an entrepreneurial context.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

- Be versed fundamentals of business planning, including business idea, product calculations, financing, market analysis / marketing plan, project planning, organizational structure and intellectual property, and how these relate to the process of innovation / product development.
- Have a good understanding of the principles of entrepreneurship.

 

 

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

- In the form of a project, demonstrate ability to work in teams to develop a business plan for a new product idea, with support from teaching materials and supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to insightfully discuss the different sections of the business plan and their interrelationship.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform simple calculations for product development / business models.


 
 

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

 Have an understanding of his/her future role in / towards the business, including an increased understanding of the innovation process and the relationship between costs and revenues for individual products / projects and activities in general.
- Have a good understanding of the importance of collaboration and communication in innovation processes .

Contents

The course focuses mainly on entrepreneurial issues related to product development and business planning. This is discussed from different perspectives by guests, group exercises and literature.

Examination details

Grading scale: UG
Assessment: The grades given are based on fulfilment of the 80% minimum attendance requirement and on active participation in the group assignment.

Required prior knowledge: MIOA01 and IDE051 or corresponding.
